Bsnl sucks

Ok so Bsnl(Bhagwan Se B Na Lage) maybe the largest telecom/internet service provider in india,but that doesnt mean that its good.Whether it be broadband,iptv(myway) service,3g or customer service,bsnl fails at all.

Broadband connection:I currently have 1mbps plan (bsnl) n i get download speed of about 60-70 kbps on good days(5 days/month),30-60kbps on average days(15days/month) and 10-30 kbps on bad days(10 days/month).Even 60-70 kbps for a 1 mbps plan is bad.You may not have any issues with web browsing but if you download a lot or play games online then having bsnl can give you nightmares.Also the connectivity sucks,The connection times out every 2-3 hours.Being an online gamer i can never play games like call of duty:zombies where you need to have a constant internet connection for hours if u want to reach higher level.Also a lot of complaints have been registered aginst bsnl for overcharging them on limited data usage plans,My Cousin was charged 3000Rs for using internet overboard(1 gb limit) and according to him he hardly used internet. :P

Iptv(myway):- Few months back a bsnl salesman came to my house for advertising bsnl's new iptv service "Myway".The price was pretty high compared to cabel connection and someother dish services but I was impressed by some of the features that were included in the package and so i got myway.

Price:-

2000RS/- for setupbox (nonrefundable) X(
444 rs/month-157 channels(my local cabelwala provides more channels then this shit at 300 rs /month:P:P)
333 rs/month-151 channels
249 rs/month-122 channels
280 rs/month-133 channels (U dont get access to many major channels if u buy this plan,for eg:-You have to pay rs 90/month extra if u want to watch espn,star cricket,star sports.Infact espn,star sports and star cricket are not included in any of the above three plans except the 444 rs wala plan.).

Some of the features that myway was offering:

• High quality transmission
• Free On demand movies
• 7 days of auto recording .
• Games,Shopping and more.
• Email,Information etc.

(Note:- As u buy lower plans,your loose access to some of the features.For eg:-for some lower plans you dont get free access to ondemand movies.You have to pay rent to watch movies and trust me for some movies the rent/day is more then what you will pay in theatres.)

So not long enough after i got myway,my internet speed went ridiculously down(not that it was any better before,from bad it got worse).I called myway service center and told them about the problem.They told me that myway doesnt useup internet speed and there is no connection between myway and connection speed.They were actually right,myway doesnt useup speed but then how the hell did my speed go down??

Another huge issue with myway is loading time.It takes about a minute for setup box to start,The loading screen for accessing on demand,email services,games etc is also high and most of the time it will hang.My setupbox hangs atleast 3 times a day.Also You have to point remote exactly at the setupbox to make it work.It has to be awarded as the "cheapest and bogus setup box of all time". ~X(

The picture was taken by me.As you can see there are no movies available.To see movies you have to restart the setupbox,if that doesnt work keep restarting your setupbox untill you see the movies.Frustrating..right?

Also you need a compulsory internet connection for myway.Internet from other service providers wont work,you need a compulsory "BSNL" connection.Sucks ...right?.

3g:- Learning my lessons from iptv and broadband,i didnt apply for bsnl 3g.But from what i have heard from my friends who have bsnl 3g,its just as bas as broadband and iptv.Share your bad experiences u had with bsnl 3g,i m sure u would have plenty. :)


Customer service:-Try calling bsnl customer service and getting your problem solved in a week.It would be nothing less then a miracle if your problem is solved in a week.With all this bad experiences i had with bsnl,i often called bsnl customer service,sometimes even 20-25 times a day.None of my problem got solved in less then 15 days.!!!!

So why is bsnl popular even after so many failures?

when Broadband was introduced in early 2000's in india,Most of the private companies couldnt afford giving broadband connection at a resonable price.Bsnl was the only company which provided broadband connection at 250 Rs/month.Infact private companies lowered broadband prices after 2006.Alot of people had already started using bsnl broadband bythen and probably they dont feel like switching to another service provider now.Another reason is the area factor,bsnl pretty much provides internet allover india,while companies like airtel are still limited to some areas.

Good alternative to bsnl?

For me airtel is currently the best internet service provider in india.Good speed,No connectivity issues and resonable price.1mbps plan is for about 1250 rs/month,compared to bsnl's 1350 rs/month,but the real deal is in 2mbps plan which is just 150 or 250 rs more then 1mbps plan (about 1400rs/month).But as i said before the only down side about airtel is that its limited to certain areas.
